Ministries in Spanish
Ministries in Spanish at Holy Comforter strive to build bridges between Charlotte’s Spanish-speaking and English-speaking communities. Under the leadership of our clergy, the parishioners of Holy Comforter continue to actively engage in ministry, gather in fellowship, and worship in thanksgiving for the abundance of God.
We began offering English as a Second Language classes in 2006, serving the needs of Hispanic residents who wanted to learn English while also offering care and tutoring for their children.
In 2009, when a child whose parents were attending English classes at the church didn’t know how to use scissors, the idea for a new ministry was born as La Escuelita Preschool. In 2016, it became obvious that the realities of what students need and what their parents require in preschool education were changing dramatically. As a result, we consolidated two existing schools to create an innovative dual-language, play-based program. Both economically and socially diverse, our La Escuelita Weekday School at Holy Comforter launched on July 1, 2016, with a goal of preparing children for kindergarten while instilling an abiding sense of respect for all children, their unique cultures and their individual development
Every Sunday at 12:30 p.m., we offer a warm and welcoming La Misa en Español for our Spanish-speaking community followed by a lively coffee hour. Special services throughout the year are bilingual, to encourage all members of our congregation to worship together.
