- OR, message Beth for mail or delivery of a book
Our Trespasses is the story of Charlotte's historic Brooklyn neighborhood, a Black community of homes, businesses, and churches that was razed through Urban Renewal. It's the story of the North family and others who lived through that experience and who are marked by it today. It's the story of many White Christians and one particular church who were engaged in advocating for Urban Renewal or acting on its fruits.
So, here's the countercultural invitation. I am inviting you to register for as many of our three sessions of discussion as you can attend (June 16 and 30, July 14); to read, struggle with, and discuss with honesty and civility this difficult story; to invite others who have experienced this story differently - Black people, White people, old and young, newcomers and born-in-Charlotte folks; Republicans, Democrats, and unaffiliated folks. I'm asking you to do something hard, well. And it's all free: the books, dinner, and child care if you need it. No discounts.
Some books will be available on Saturday, May 18, at Holy Comforter, under the Van Every portico. Look for the little blue cooler with books inside; the vintage Coleman cooler will return when the next order arrives.
We'll need volunteers at every session, to help set up, serve dinner and clean up, move chairs around.
