Organ
The earliest known organ at Holy Comforter was built by the Estey Organ Company of Brattleboro, Vermont, and installed in 1912 as that firm’s Opus 1068. That organ was moved to the Park Road church, and was rebuilt and enlarged by the Wicks Organ Company of Highland, Illinois, in 1970. The rebuild and enlargement in 1970 was a gift of parishioner Carolyn Sherrill, given in honor of her parents.
In 2008, Bunn=Minnick Company of Columbus, Ohio, was selected to rebuild it. That project was completed in early 2011, and the organ was heard for the first time in worship on Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011. A dedicatory recital was played by Charlotte native Jonathan Ryan on Friday, May 6, 2011. The project was funded largely from gifts to the Capital Campaign and the Holy Comforter Foundation.
The current instrument totals 42 ranks over three manuals and pedal. A specification can be found here.
