Our Outreach ministries are grouped into 4 keys areas: Feeding, Teaching, Sheltering and Healing. Below you will discover more information about each.
We recognize the dramatic need for feeding assistance here in Charlotte, where more than 50% of Charlotte Mecklenburg students are eligible for the free and reduced lunch program.
Holy Comforter houses and supports a Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry on our campus – the only pantry in the area that is open 5 days a week.
Volunteers from here and our surrounding community pitch in to provide a week’s worth of food to those in need. Once a month, volunteers serve dinner at The Men’s Shelter and at Charlotte Rescue Mission.
Our world and community are in desperate need of healing.
Healing ministries run the gamut at Holy Comforter, from the traditional – such as assisting Charlotte Hospice and Palliative Care – to the groundbreaking – providing a volunteer team of Nurse Navigators who are by parishioners’ sides to lead them through a difficult diagnosis. Our Lazarus Team assists families as they are walking through a funeral, and we work with our neighboring Park Road churches to offer a grief support group.
From checking blood pressure to offering flu shots, there is always something going on to nurture the health and well being of our parish and our community.
Teaching the next generation and growing in our faith is a charge that Holy Comforter takes seriously, for people of all ages.
We house a unique preschool that cares for children from ages one to four years - La Escuelita Weekday School-with instruction in both English and Spanish. Adults whose English is limited can participate in English as a second language (ESL) classes; older children can receive free tutoring. We also host Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts are actively involved in Campus Ministry to college students.
We take Jesus' command to shelter our neighbors seriously at Holy Comforter.
As part of our Outreach to the community, we shelter homeless men, women and families on Saturday evenings from November through March through Room in the Inn. We also assist the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte (as we did with their Father's Day wallet collection shown in the photo above), and work with Crisis Assistance Ministry, Charlotte Family Housing and the YWCA throughout the year.
